Team Geostride
“Fortitudine Vincimus” Geostride started in 1990 as an adventure racing team, competing in multi-day expedition races while actively climbing and travelling around the Philippines in pursuit of adventure. The team was originally composed of members of the fifty-one year old outdoor club, the Nature Explorers Society of USC-Cebu (NES-USC). The NES-USC was originally organized by Professor Julian Jumalon, a member of the Smithsonian Institution’s survey expeditions to Mount Apo in the 1930’s. The members of Geostride have always been devoted adventure enthusiasts, each creating a certain lifestyle for himself that put adventure ahead of everything else. If you were a member of Geostride in the 1990’s, there would have been no question what your priorities were. Waking up in the morning was the only incentive required to pack your bags and leave for the next climb, race, or obscure adventure. Life was like a big expedition that didn’t end, and the people who took part in it belonged to a very specialized kind of community, dedicated to their own brand of adventure. It was not about convenience, comfort, or ease, the only thing that mattered was the experience and the exclusive camaraderie of experience. It was all about being on your own and unfettered. Although, it was not really about being daring or outrageous, it was just purely a need to participate in a style of living that celebrated life on a dare. In 2011, we are starting a new adventure with Geostride.Com to celebrate the history of the team. You don’t necessarily have to go out and climb mountains yourself to take part, all you need is a little bit of inquisitiveness and the experience is all yours! Welcome to Geostride!
